An important detail to note is that while Michael talks about GTX 680, GTX 780 Ti, etc, what's actually happening is that nouveau has varying levels of success changing various clocks on those boards, which is specific to *those specific boards*, not all GTX 680's, or all GTX 780's, etc. So individual users will have varying levels of success, and that success will depend on specific elements of the VBIOS, not on the chip on the inside or the marketing name on the outside.

Generally speaking, the HD 6950 open-source performance has traditionally long struggled compared to the HD 6870.

WTF ! Where did my post go ? Can one of the mods actually "approve" and unlock it ?
It's the vBulletin 5 spam filtering being utter shit.... When I see posts in the queue, I clear them, but with basically being the only mod (there's ~2 others that occasionally do moderating), sometimes it's not instant.

Kind of curious on this too. Any forum software that doesn't play nicely with HTTPS is a definite no-go in my book: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/forum...776#post815776

Probably doesn't mean much (not entirely certain if there's any advantages to have chosen vBulletin), but MyBB does seemingly pretty well in my experience (along with being free and open-source, and working properly with HTTPS).

The R7 370 is impressively competitive being a relatively cheap card. I would have expected a larger difference between the 290 and the 370 as the former has more than twice the compute power. Any explanation for this?

Just look at Valley benchmark (only Unigine benchmarks here are clear GPU benchmarks by design, in other something else might came in) that should be average around 60% and that is what happen there... otherẃise R9 290 should be much faster then that 40% difference (without any limit for both) only if you hit some limitation of R7 370 in some app.

In random game benchmarks, and let say if difference between R7 370 and R9 290 is lower then 40% then probably some game or driver limit came in... like CPU cap and so on.

Basically it is fine raw GPU power of R7 370 vs R9 290 should be right at 60% if you don't hit some limit on R7 370 (bigger resolutions, more VRAM needed by app, more postprocesing effects, etc. whatever that can make R7 start to struggle but R9 not yet) , otherwise you should expect more difference but only if you also don't hit some driver limitation too.

It's only a flat initial fee per major release. But anyhow, almost a decade ago when the forums were started, vBulletin was clearly the best.... With the open-source forum software at the time more prone to security issues and what not while vBulletin seemed to be basically the best. As time went on, open-source solutions have improved. vBulletin was great up until the most recent vB5 milestone. I haven't been able to transition away from it due to: compatibility with other forum software in being able to import VB5. AND most importantly not having the extra time/resources to thoroughly explore all alternatives.
