switch is a poor example since it's super underpowered for what it is trying to be IMO.

still outsold the xbox x|s, and ps5 in numbers and revenue.

at nearly 10 years old now. Its definately time they had a refresh, Valve seem as likely a partner as any other. The deck may have "only" shipped 3 million or so units in the last 24 months, but for a new entrant to a highly competitive market, I doubt Valve will let the usual AMD hyperbole stand in the way of shooting for the next blockbuster, they have been making a habbit of it.

And? Did it sell that much because it has a Tegra in it? No? Then why bring it up? Lmao.
You do realize Valve is running x86_64 PC games right? The Switch barely runs its more intensive games at 360p 20fps. Seriously look at that Wolfenstien performance. Now add an emulation overhead on top of that. Yes, I know there's more powerful Tegras. But those either have even higher power draw than the Deck or they're still not as powerful.

And Nvidia's control panel ("nvidia-settings") still doesn't work on Wayland.

So you dont believe the switches price, dev environment, performance, and quality factors played any role in its success.
            gotcha.

Because I do believe the switches price, dev environment, performance, and quality factors played the only meaningful roles in its success. And the GPU is the single defining hardware component in all of those.

            Indeed.

Even when the switch came out it was under powered and old. The switch is able to get away with it since most games play well with a lower resolution + upscaling. and were fairly graphically not demanding, if every switch game was like doom or witcher, it would not have sold nearly as good

I know enough that Nvidia can't match AMD APUs. Nothing is even close.

thats what the alternatives fanboys said then yes.

No one cared, friends compared the options then and recommended the ones they liked best to each other and the market spoke.

For the record I don't have a switch, but its pretty clear when you can spend more time building great games rather than waiting years for bug reports to be addressed you can build better games.

And that is pretty much nvidias whole gig, they describe themselves as a software company first and hardware company second. These days all their software is linux first and their shareholders are very much not complaining.

wayland nutjobs, redhats, and various other inept cretins are pretty livid tho.

the issue isn't that the switch had bad games, but merely that it's hardware capability is far to restrictive of anything that would actually be usable. The newest tegra chips seem somewhat promising but not really all that much.

the issue is exactly the opposite of the switch having bad games.

The issue is it had all the good games. 100s of blockbuster nintendo switch exclusives. vs Halo on xbox and gran turismo on playstation.

That is all about developers not giving a shite about your politics or how good the lighting engine is - first and foremost they need a platform that puts development needs over bullshit and hyperbole.
