  • Laptop MX150 (MX130 also) support?

Current nouveau drivers seem to have support for gt1030 and other pascal cards. Has anyone been able to use laptop mx150 with nouveau driver? Google does not show anything interesting. Here is what i get:

    Code:
[ 1883.774983] MXM: GUID detected in BIOS
[ 1883.775017] ACPI Warning: \_SB.PCI0.GFX0._DSM: Argument #4 type mismatch - Found [Buffer], ACPI requires [Package] (20180105/nsarguments-100)

Use the nvidia from nvidia site, it is faster and does have support for your hardware. http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...x/134262/en-us

Nouveau is useful for very old gpus like gt8400 for office use only.

This is not an option. I prefer open source stuff, if i can get it. Anyway, there already is support(without reclocking, though) for pascal cards in nouveau.

You have so bizarre hardware that Nouveau developers does not have it. It took years before gt8400 support was good. So you need wait forever. Sell your nv laptop and buy an Amd APU laptop for open source drivers. Better is to build a Amd hardware desktop computer, laptops are in-disposable toys. You pay many 100 usd for a 15 inch monitor, for example. When you use a microAtx case and a motherboard, your computer fits to a Cabin Luggage Suitcase.

Come on. MX150 is a very popular gpu in modern laptops. I wanted to buy a laptop with i5 8250u, and at the time when i was buying it, there were only two options for me: HP probook g5(without discrete gpu) and Asus s510un with nvidia. Prices and specs were very close, so i've chosen Asus. Should have bought HP instead. I guess, this discussion will turn into another "f*uck you, nvidia" topic.

I guess, moderators did not approve my previous response (i was quoting Linus on nvidia). Anyway, mx150 is a quite popular card in modern laptops. And i'm going to use it only with open source driver. The question is, did anyone was able to use a pascal laptop nvidia card with nouveau?

That is impossible unless you patch the nouveau driver by adding support for the MX150 chipset. Maybe adding gpu pci id to some header file is a beginning. But mobile chips are not same as desktop chips, so more new code is needed. You can inspect source code and try something.

There is progress with kernel 4.17. Now the nouveau module loads, but X hangs. Also, module named "nv_pmu_something" segfaults. I'm nearly happy.
