Phoronix: RadeonSI Now Supports Two More OpenGL Extensions

The RadeonSI Gallium3D driver has picked up support for two more OpenGL ARB extensions outside of what's mandated by OpenGL 4.5...

Do these extensions together with OpenGL 4.5 allow making a streaming map applicaton where you don't need to send drawing commands for every map-chunk/tile/volume?

Judging from the git repo they pushed the experimental/functional AMDGPU SI support to kernel 4.9. So these awesome patches won't have much of an impact on 1.0 hardware until then .

These articles would be a lot more interesting, if (when possible) they would list a few examples of known applications that make use of and profit from the new features.

I agree, but it would be hard to unless there is an existing database of applications and the opengl components they use.

I'm all for the feature complete software, but are these extensions likely to get included in a future version of OpenGL? Maybe they are "intermediate steps" for OpenGL 4.5 or something.

In any case, let's hope that RadeonSI/Nouveau can catch up with Intel for both OGL and Vulcan soon. OpenSource should be the bleeding edge: ahead of the proprietary drivers, not a year behind.
