The difference between NVidia and ADM is NVidia gives you hope, AMD gives you nothing, if you dare to post an issue about their 2d performance on their "high level of technical support and easy of navigation" (http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ca...ux.html#177261) they will tell you to look on your ati box and see if there is any Linux support.
Please don't tell me NVidia is worse !
Also:
looks like for a lot of people the new driver fixed nothing or made it worse. And the best thing: there is no free driver to try or documentation. Great.

For those experiencing the seg faults, two important questions:
- Are you using 32-bit OpenGL apps on a 64-bit installation?
- Are you using any AA/AF?Michael Larabel

Now let's take a look here: http://omnidatagrup.ro/~taipan/amd/ticket.pdf.
This is a ticket I try to report to amd support center.
If we don't speak about amd decision to make free the specs and speak ONLY binary drivers and support can I ask you which one is the worse ?
I want to make this clear I RESPECT AMD for giving their specs but I can't respect their binary drivers and their support.

I think I found why fglrx drivers are so slow on kde4 for some cards
Starting with the R600 series (and continuing with the recently announced RV770, Radeon HD 4800 series) there is no longer a physical 2D engine. Instead, 2D calls are emulated using the command processor, or CP for short. Both the Radeon and RadeonHD drivers are now capable of using the command processor through the Direct Rendering Manager (DRM) as opposed to MMIO (Memory Mapped IO). Recently Luc Verhaegen has exposed a way in the Command Submission branch to use the command processor without relying upon any DRM. In regards to the R600 2D acceleration, the support will be written in a way that it will support the R600 series and will run almost unchanged on the RV770 (Radeon HD 4800) series.

I really feel ati are not working towards supporting the majority of there users, as I pointed out earlier in other threads ATI would start to add features for new cards before fixing issues with current cards.
I can't really see the point of having teams working on overclocking and Xfire for 48xx, when core business is probably igp's most people would prefer xv fix,2d or a compiz hack like nvidias.
I myself bought a HD3870 but got fed up with the fix a bug make a bug.
and bought an 8800gt which has a better user experience for me.
Nvidia has a few problems to but are barely noticeable to ATI's just look at users online and posts here.
I really feel ATI would struggle if they had not opened up the driver base, as radeon hd driver seems far more usable on a lot of cards.
Surly Ati would make more money getting stable igp drivers after all linux is at its most popular. It's even provided with some motherboards
and lets not forget EEPC's.
I think now Intel has moved into graphics, it's really going to be tough for AMD, as they have an excellent history of drivers.
Speed at the cost of stabilty and basic function is pointless.
I wish all ati users here the best as your a loyal bunch hope AMD appreciates you!
P.S will keep the hd 3870 just in case.
