Except (a) r600g is already "abandoned" to use your terminology (since all our recent chips use radeonsi) but it has continued to improve.

Abandoned? Im so happy with the improvements in mesa10.3/kernel3.17, but I guess there is still some other new optimizations to try for this driver (I hope so). I guess I still think it could approach even more the performance of catalyst.
(the truth is than one of my concerns is than I can play fluently CSGO in windows, in Linux it runs, but its still unplayable (with hyperz activated))
