Phoronix: Radeon VRAM Optimizations Coming, But Help Is Needed

Got a workload that runs badly on the r600g Radeon Gallium3D driver? You can help fix it! Optimizations are coming to the open-source Radeon Linux driver for video memory usage...

I have a r600 and am willing to put a bit off effort in to helping, but i wonder if the problem is that vram detection in steam and xorg.

Steam reports 1GB under windows, xorg reports a weird number around 800MB, steam says it desnt detect any VRAM.

I've got a 6850 (pci express), 3200 (IGP), a 5400 (PCI), and a 7850... One of the machines I've got laying around is somewhat idle and can be reformatted at will.

        Anyone have any game suggestions?

I guess I could start with Serious Sam 3, TF2, Oil Rush, and go from there.

Expeditions: Conquistador? I'd do it myself, but I relegated the r600 card I have to my HTPC, so it's not equipped to run any games at the moment...

Well, those oibaf drivers crashed compiz for me (wouldnt boot).
Install fglrx, getting min 80fps on TF2 with min settings, was down to 13fps with stock radeon driver (with some corruption).
Try and go back to open source radeon driver and its black screen...

              Long way to go.

PS: steam doesnt detect vram with fglrx drivers either, so i assume its just a reporting problem not a detection problem.

At the end you say him but the name is more often given to females.

                Clarify?

...I fail to see how this really matters to the topic at hand or at all, but: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauri
Lauri is an Estonian and Finnish male given name.

                    Mesa 10.1
                    Kernel 3.12.7

                    Could debugging help?
