What exactly do you observe? OpenGL + compositing works, but the blur effect doesn't? Is there a crash? Is is faulty? It doesn't do anything at all?

OpenGL compositing works flawlessly, but the blur effect does not work (instead the window becomes dark gray).

That's quite interesting. It works flawlessly here.

Could it be the kernel? I'm running 2.6.36-rc6 here, and xorg 1.9

drm-radeon-testing and xorg 1.9.1-rc1 here. I will try 2.6.36-rc7 but I don't think the problem is the kernel...

            Maybe it's your hardware.

Anyway, you might want to report this here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/

I will try with 2.6.36-rc7 before reporting.

It does not work even with 2.6.36-rc7.

Are you sure you have the transparency effect enabled?

Yes, I am sure. I have the same problem on Intel GMA 4500 (but with the Intel, even disabling blur, the K menu -or the calendar in the systray- do NOT pop-up when I click on them).
