  • 22 graphics patents bought by OIN

These patents are being reported as "3D technology patents" originally owned by SGI. So the obvious question is: "Is there anything useful to Mesa in there?". I guess I'm hoping for anything texture-related...

    interesting:
The patents cover 3D graphics sold to Microsoft by SGI in 2001. We reported in January 2002, on finding out about the sale, that it represented the "bulk" of SGI's 3D intellectual property assets.
    some more info: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/09...i_patents_oin/

weren't fglrx (or even mesa) reporting an SGI string in earlier times when invoking glxinfo ?

Isn't the main texture issue the compression patents held by S3/VIA?

SGI provided the GLX code, so the open drivers report SGI for the glx vendor.
