    The idea that they'd be giving something away and therefore risking future profits is entirely without logical backing. The more they "give away," the more they get free help from millions of engineers world wide to make their products work 1) faster 2) more efficiently 3) more securely, and 4) for longer. That's a fact; feel free to dispute it.
    The reason to obfuscate all of this stuff is to hide the fact that backdoors and such are hidden, which is a requirement from intelligence agencies who are partnered with those who print money/debt to fund such massive projects as chip fabs.

      Actually, the vast majority of open development is done by AMD themselves. The idea that tons of people would contribute development turned out to be wrong. It's just because developing graphics drivers is hard and you need to to have both the skill and the knowledge to do it and that's extremely rare. AMD already hired everyone that was making significant contributions.
