Intel Ironlake Receives Patches For RC6 Power Savings

Practically negligible compared to the wastage from all the people still running their P4 machines or other CPUs from that era.

Not that negligible if one is to pay for it. I do run 24/7 server with Ironlake CPU on it.

And here I thought Ironlake didn't even have RC6. I don't use my old machine much anymore, but it's still ticking when I do turn it on. Now it'll tick with a bit less power consumption

I also saw on the mesa mailing list that the GPU hangs during VAAPI decoding are being fixed (see here). They got less annoying when proper GPU reset got implemented, but anyway, really nice to see Ironlake getting some love.

I was just about to throw my Ironlake-based laptop away till I read this message, because I was suffering from the VAAPI issue. Of course, RC6 support is a big plus. Thanks for extending my laptop life.
