    It's too late to see these Gen9 HDR patches...
    Not really,... HDR displays weren't common in past, and still only few people get then now (as HDR displays are usually worse in different aspects, or they are very expensive). Anyway, professional users would probably focus on sRGB coverage, and maybe some convenience in form of USB-C connection with power delivery and USB hub.

      How do we check which vendor is used for that LSPCON chip? Is it possible to do via CLI or do you need to source the information elsewhere? The article only mentioned support over HDMI, while the image shows HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.3?

      Looking at the linked patch, it seems to touch both HDMI and DP.

      If you continue to read the sentence that you quoted, it's not about the support lag on Linux compared to Windows(that is mentioned later), but that it's too late for the patches to arrive in the 5.7 kernel. Instead we'll see them in 5.8 or later.

        Arghh,... I had misunderstood the sentence, previously. You're right. On the first look, it seemed to me, that it won't even be in 5.7, but 5.8, lagging way too much behind Windows.

            this something i hate about linux that there no decent playback support like windows have and the worst seem no one care
            EDIT: there no 10-bit color depth support in 2020

              Does AMD have anything working on HDR ?
              There are so many movies released with HDR and the new TVs will be great for them.

                HDR is also great in games that support it, even on cheaper HDR 600 displays games like Forza Horizon 4 or Assassin's Creed: Odyssey can generate beautiful landscapes. So one of the first applications supporting could be games and applications through Wine/Proton.
                That is if compositors can figure it out by then.

                  Watching movies in HDR LOL. Guess you're not someone who regularly watches TV and/or movies, else you wouldn't watch it in HDR.

                    What are you talking about?
                    I watch movies not on TV but on Windows 7 + K-lite codec pack (MPC-HC + MadVr) which transforms HDR to normal range until I buy a HDR capable monitor or TV.
                    Even so, they look great.
