  • intel i865 problems

    I have Arch with:
    xorg-server 1.5.3-3
    xf86-video-intel 2.4.3-1
But I've also had pretty much the same problem on Ubuntu 8.10

I've got a dell optiplex sx270 desktop, older, pentium 4, with intel i865 graphics. It worked fine on Ubuntu 8.04.

I've been trying to get it to work with arch and ubuntu 8.10 but it appears that X no longer functions properly with the intel driver and this graphic processor. Previously there were either i810/i865 drivers packaged separately, but now they're all integrated into the intel driver, which doesn't seem to work.

This pc has 1 video out, a DVI port, but the intel driver detects 2: VGA and TMDS, however, it seems to never see a monitor connected to either whether I use x auto configuration or no matter what I put in xorg.conf. So with the intel driver x will never start because it doesn't detect any properly configured displays.

I have googled and searched and I can not seem to find any information on fixing this. I've encountered some info that suggests others might have the same problem, but nothing about fixing it.

Currently I'm stuck with vesa.... ugh.
Working...
