These aren't built for performance. They are built for low power usage. For use in huge datacenters with many processors. Datacenters care a lot about how much electricity they use.

Perform well with regards to what? Number crunching, no, it is using A57 cores. On the other hand keeping a couple of 10GB-ethernets saturated, it will no doubt do well, since that is what AMD set out to do with the chip.

It's not always about floating point performance. In a data center you pick the hardware based on the task at hand.

But they still need kernel support. Unless they are going to be running something other than Linux which I doubt they would on an ARM server.

Please don't hamper people's efforts to say "AMD has low performance because... because... because just AMD" with benchmarks.

These things will surely do a nice job in their appropriate areas. It will be interesting to see affordable mainboards for these chips. And to answer the open questions about possible use of Coreboot and so on. But I guess AMD will deliver, maybe not all at once but deliver. Would be wise though, if stock kernels used in distribution had everything ready and in place once the HW hits the markets.
