Windows can not be replaced by Linux and any BSD, they have had decades to try and accomplish that and have failed. In fact, Windows actually has replaced these two in many areas by offering a superior server product. It's a testament to how low an opinion the general market has of Linux and BSD that despite being free alternatives, people still prefer Windows by a wide margin.

If you count ChromeOS and Android, Linux is doing great! Even MacOS is making inroads.

Linux killed WinCE. Linux owns cloud computing. MS even had to create their own Linux distro. I'm skeptical of your claims about Windows Server replacing Linux, as well. Do you have any data to back that up?

Most PC users just take Windows because they know it and it comes with their computer. So, even though it costs money, they don't "see" the cost. It surely says something that Microsoft has had to offer free upgrades, starting with Windows 10.

The Free Market is the ultimate test of a product, if you offer a superior product or service the market will respond.
