AMD Gallium3D & Catalyst Drivers Compete Against Windows
well i use arch/gentoo and is true gentoo is way more flexible but arch is very well done , rolling and binary. so if your pc is slow or you don't want to compile too much arch is perfect

True, it would be great to have something as the combination of the two. Flexibility of gentoo with binary packages compiled for your desired arch...
I have a hypothesis that AMD are planning to move over to Intel's way of doing things. Only have an open source driver on Linux, and proprietary on Windows. It fits with all these recent strides in the FOSS development, and their lacking enthusiasm with the closed source driver. An open source driver would suit the APUs better too. Maybe in 2015?
I guess that was their long term plan anyway. As soon as the free driver is good enough. Til then - as an "intermediate" solution (even if it is for some years) have fglrx around to get things running from launch day on.
The problem with intel is that not everything labeled as intel is actually intel. Sometimes it is this hazardous waste from imagination technologies (PowerVR).
Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!

They only do that on Atoms. Any desktop/laptop CPU from them uses their own IGP.
