As always it failed due to the regulatory trash, and as always China opposing any foreign acquisition. But Chinese companies of course can acquire any other company.

Its failing is a good thing, actually. Companies need to be separated more, not merged into a mega-conglomerate.

Its failing is a good thing, actually. Companies need to be separated more, not merged into a mega-conglomerate.

They were trying to buy Tower because its capabilities were complementary to those of IFS. It wasn't being done to snuff out a competitor, but rather to be able to offer IFS customers a broader range of capabilities. That's why they're moving ahead with this extremely close partnership.

I think this might've meant to play into Intel's chiplet/tile strategy, in which case you could see some benefits to having both digital an analog manufacturing capabilities within a single company.
