A friend of mine is still holding onto his Power Mac G5 and would like to try dual-booting OSX with Linux; maybe Ubuntu 14.04 which still seems to have an unofficial 64-bit PPC port.
I don't know exactly what model gfx card he has currently but I do know its a Nvidia and I think he'd likely be better off switching that for a Radeon card as far as Linux is concerned altough I don't know what model would be best.
So, what is the best AGP Pro Radeon graphics for use with Linux and OSX? Good 2D performance is more important for him than 3D so would any Radeon AGP card offer any hardware video decoding/encoding accel under both Linux and OSX? I would expect GPUs of such vintage to only handle MPEG2/4 in hardware, if at all.
