The four month old KWin merge request by Xaver Hugl to allow for triple buffering has been merged and just in time for the Plasma 6.1 code branching!..

I think Ubuntu may even switch over. Though I not speak of tragedy. It's good to have competition. Though in the long term I see more competition in COSMIC/Iced/Rust than GNOME/Gtk/C.

      COSMIC/Iced + A Servo-based browser is what I hope for -- can I dream?

Although unlikely, KDE can emulate Ubuntu's UI almost perfectly. Years ago I did it once at work when I was bored, waiting something to finish. Non advanced users may not even notice it, if you go deep enough in the theming.

4 month old merge request. On the GNOME side it has been over 3 YEARS and it still looks like the MR is open even after being "ready to merge" for GNOME 46 .

That's a good explanation of what triple buffering is needed for. Gnome's triple buffering implementation was explained as something around tricking the driver to raise the GPU clock or something like that. Do Gnome devs simply not know what triple buffering is used for, or is Gnome's situation different from KDE?
