    It was just back in April that Sound Open Firmware 2.1 released as the newest version of the open-source audio DSP firmware stack started by Intel and also even being used by other select hardware vendors as well. Sound Open Firmware 2.2 is on the way as the newest feature release for Intel's "SOF" project...

    So much firmware just for sound.

    Miss the times in where sound was nothing more than setting AUDLCH/AUDLCL, AUDLEN and INTENA, and then letting go...

    So many layers just to output a stream of sound...

    ...and if DSP was necessary, couldn't it be something simple but effective? Instead of having to go through firmware just to upload DSP CODE?!
    The SPC700 for example only needed a tiny bootstrap in order to load code.......
