It should be possible to do it in Linux as well, by re-building Chromium and running it standalone directly talking to drm. See:

Is this different than FreeSync? I thought freesync was already supported by intel graphics on linux

Is this actually going to break USB tethering? I guess that people rely on usb to tether with their phones.
