I wish they accepted mud as payment. I dug some up last night, and I'd like to spend it, but Valve won't take my mud. I guess i'll just pirate their games instead. They should really start accepting mud.

Under the DCMA, web forums that accept user content are not liable for content posted by 3ed parties so long as they remove it they receive a DCMA takedown notice.
Michael can shrug off the bluffing threats about piracy links here-because under the DCMA, only the owners of the copyrights have the authority to send a DCMA takedown\

Were it not for this safe harbor, Youtube and other video hosting services would face billions in lawsuits over music in videos. Youtube only scans for backing music out of
fear that their sheer size could induce Congre$$ to amend the DCMA under pressure from the RIAA and MPAA. The threats here are like Getty letters arriving from someone

I don't have a debit/credit card. Fortunately, Steam accepts all popular russian web-wallet services, such as yandex-money, web-money, and qiwi-wallet.

You call it lame, but I call it my only option. Seriously? What other option do I have when I can't use PayPal, when I don't have a credit/debit card?

I understand that piracy is not a good thing when we have these companies offering Linux games, but I wish they were more flexible with the payment options.

I have been wondering for years why the don't give us a bankaccount number so we can transfer the money.

That how we ( dutch) pay most bills, and why a credit card is not that much used over here.

I find it hard to believe, you need a credit card for steam.

First of all I bought the orange box, and some other box, in a store, and activated it on steam. It gave me HL2 Portal, HalLlife, counter strike and a few more games.

Secondly you can use paypall.

Third option move to the Netherlands

The dutch steam users were able to explain to Valve that a credit card is not very common over here.
Valve now has an option, which only seem to be their for the dutch, but it comes down to an online bank transfer.

Here in Germany we can use the PaySafeCard for that, a prepaid card that is widely accepted for German web services. Works without a problem. Alternatively I could go into one of the many electronic stores and just buy a copy of the game I want, as you say.

Furthermore I like to add, that pirating because a company stops developers from making a Linux version, is for me oke.
That's what this topic was about.
The reason, I don't have a creditcard, sounds like bs to me.

I also like to add pirating games from the one company, that gave us gaming on Linux, on a never seen before scale, sounds very lame to me.

Using sexual slurs may enter into "other obscene material". As saying to pirate enters into: "respect other's copyright" - section 5.

This is not about us, what you did is a direct violation of forum rules (Rule 7). It is illegal and could get Michael in a lot of trouble. You should contact the admins and ask to have it removed immediately.

But hey, the "pirates" are not all that bad, if you look into most links for example you'll see comments such as this one:

"If you like this game, please buy it and support the companies."

Also, I would happily buy games to support Linux games but they don't give me the choice to do so, I don't have a credit/debit card and I also don't want one due to the ridiculous bank fees and taxes, it's much easier for me to buy BTC from localbitcoins.com and use that to pay for things on the internet, but Valve won't take BTC AFAIK.

So please don't judge without knowing, I'll give HL2 a try because it's the only way for me to try it and I'll delete it later, maybe after playing 10-15 minutes, as soon as Valve starts taking BTC I'll happily buy it.

I'll probably buy more than once just so that I support those efforts on Linux.

I don't care at all why you pirate. You post illegal download links in a Linux forum that obviously is even read by the Activision PR crew. Now think about how your behavior reflects on the Linux community that actually wants to get games and pay for them. And yes, if this was my forum I would outright ban you, because providing illegal links to copyrighted content on a forum can get the forum owner (read: Michael) in serious problems. Are you the one that want to pay the lawyers if this will be the case? I doubt it, since you aren't even able to go to a fucking store to buy your games.
