    If you're going to assume that all things Google does have an equal probability of being killed, at least link to the Google Graveyard:

    Killed by Google is the open source list of dead Google products, services, and devices. It serves as a tribute and memorial of beloved services and products killed by Google.

    You can blame Qualcomm, not google for that. They developed the majority of the hardware (specifically the SOC) and the drivers that go along with it (which are closed source).

    They've been leaning on Qualcomm & Broadcom for years and it's done not an ounce of good in getting them to play nice. Putting that effort into their own chips just gave Qualcomm, et al the big middle finger. Google does some harm, but they also do a lot of good. Condemning a company and never recognizing the good they do regardless of motivation is a good way to make them stop doing anything to help broader society.

    The only reason Qualcomm has even bothered to start token efforts towards supporting FOSS is exactly because their biggest customers are figuring out they have the money and talent to tell them to shove off and their patents won't protect them everywhere, or even in all cases - or at all in places like China.

    They most likely never will. They tend to follow one of these practices:
    - hire fresh graduates to save money, let them hack away at the problem, test the embedded package as a whole afterwards and forget about it;
    - optimize everything with the available top talent to the point that the code is not useful anywhere else;
    - abstract the hell out of everything so that the code can be used on Linux today, RTEMS tomorrow, if need be.

    They have zero interest in contributing to Linux proper in any case.

    I guess Nvidia, Qualcomm, and MediaTek aren't contributing enough. As well as all of the fintech, military, aerospace, and automobile industry.
    The most recent list relating to the 5.10 kernel :
    Huawei
    Red Hat
    Google
    Amd
    Linaro
    Samsumg
    IBM
    NXP
    Facebook
    Oracle
    SUSE
    ARM

    It seems to me that you have some problems with Google. What they say is reasonable and not new, Linus himself said so. There are many companies that use the Linux kernel, some very active on the kernel, others with almost zero contribution. Google is one of the companies that contributes most to the kernel and as Linus T. has said on occasion their patches are always reliable and they also contribute in patches that their products are not affected by. We are in a difficult time in computing, there are major security challenges and this attitude is not helping.

    I guess Google aims this mostly at Amazon, Facebook and the other tech giants which heavily rely on Linux for their business. It seems that some companies contribute much more than others, so Google's point is valid.
