It never did? on install it asks to decide if the system is a server with no GUI, a Gnome desktop or a Kde desktop or a custom desktop setup.

You pick the distro you want and the desktop you want and get .iso, or even better, distros like OpenSUSE let you choose desktop at install. Few people care about "default desktop" except trolls/fanboys like you. And even the ones that do aren't as obsessed as your are. Seriously, seek professional mental help.

And you've been telling us that Leap is going to default to GNOME for a while now. I guess it happened last year in your fantasies, so as usual, you think it's true.

I wonder why they use Gnome for their enterprise SUSE desktop and KDE for the openSUSE version. Their KDE implementation is great, so why they and other companies not using KDE in their commercial desktop versions?

Also, their 5.3 kernel got first class WireGuard support added to it, backported from mainline!

The most confusing thing about stock Suse is that you install it, open the gnome dashboard, and 90% of the stuff there starts with "YaST..." and then most of what comes afterwards is cropped because of gnome insanity. I wonder if that thing got any fixes, or is even recognized as something to improve.

surely this would be the other way around, as opensuse used to default to kde?

The great Gnome Exodus begins. Who's next? Canonical is always getting slammed by users and reviewers for problems that are not of their own making but that are inherent in gnome. The Wayland migration seems dead - it may never work with the vast majority of systems. The reasons to stick with gnome are diminishing quickly.
