    Having worked around zLinux before, its pretty slick, but not for everyone and every application. It's very resource efficient and very easy to deploy.

    If you need hosts that have tight interfaces to MQ, SNA, or any other mainframe data source or protocols but with open source applications in mind (ie: Java), it works really well.

    You don't see it much because of its use on s390, but many large corporate have it in use today. And yes, mainframes still exist, even though some people seem to think they died in 1985 with Lou Gerstner.
