  • RPCS3 emulator gets a Vulkan renderer

This open-source PS3 emulator is making good progress: as announced in their monthly progress report
RPCS3 is a multi-platform open-source Sony PlayStation 3 emulator and debugger written in C++ for Windows, Linux and BSD.

their linux has just got a new vulkan renderer yesterday (PR2842: https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/pull/2842)
A few days before that, it was support for HiDpi screens.(https://github.com/RPCS3/rpcs3/pull/2834)
Nice to see that they're working hard on their linux version, to keep the feature parity with the windows version.

This is impressive. I figured that the PS3 would be harder to emulate than any other console ever due to it's CPU. It's 7 cores with a weird PowerPC-derived architecture, and extremely powerful for it's time. Hard to believe it's from 2006.

It's really amazing to see that someone is able to run Catherine (which is the next PS3 game I want to get, by the way) at 30fps, even if they have a very high-end CPU.

I really love the PS3 library. Recently I have been spending time on Motorstorm Pacific Rift. Many of them (most notably Little Big Planet) would really benefit from a native PC version but are sadly stuck to the console forever; until the emulator is working!

While newer games are often released on PC, the seventh generation was very console-heavy.
