I also enjoy to read the lines every year again.
And it will never be as large and professional as GNU. And it is not portable because a lot was in ASM vor i386.
Well, Linus always had a certain sense for humor that sometimes also bites. ;-) My favourite photo is him with his socks in "shoes with holes" in front of the MS booth advertising the newly released Windows 7 near a Linux conference in Japan. He's kneeling in front of the W7 logo, rising his thumb and grinning with a certain amount of mischief into the camera.
( http://www.newgadgets.de/uploads/2009/10/dsc_1576.jpg ; there was a large one somewhere else but I couldn't find it quickly)

But I guess he actually did never expect Freax to gain such momentum. I am happy that he did it at that time and that we do have a nicely working freedom OS now. BSD at the time might have been still under fire with all those lawsuits.
    Happy birthday!

      No idea if you're trolling.
No matter what device you used to write this flame comment, the packets you sent must have passed several Linux devices on their way to the Phoronix server (which most likely uses Linux as well).

All in all (mobile, desktop, server), Linux runs on ~75% of non-embedded computing devices in the world.
Quite an achievement for a hobby OS that will never be as professional as GNU Hurd...

.. Oh and for the love of God, its not 14 years, its 24.
