What kind of a citation will you accept, because this has been answered multiple times.

    How about this one: http://arstechnica.com/information-t...-tablets-only/
You have one year from July 29 to get your free upgrade to Windows 10, after which Microsoft will "continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device—at no cost."

And if it's only free when upgrading during the first year, would the update disappear when the year is over? How would it even know it's the first year after release or not?
No, obviously not. You get a free upgrade, and that's it. End of story. There's no big conspiracy where MS then takes away stuff unless you pay them monthly payments.

I hope there will be also file system benchmarks and comparison of features. The best M$ can provide vs ZFS, XFS, Btrfs, F2FS, unionfs and so on. Which has most advanced lz4 compressed zram disks and builtin cryptoloop devices.

OK, that's acceptable, thanks. Still wondering what will happen to the Win10 entry in Windows Update once the year is over, though.

The *upgrade* from an already purchased Windows 7 or 8.1 is free.
Yeah but guess what is running on peoples PCs these days? It's Windows 7/8. It's not like billions of people will now have to buy Windows 10, because they used to run Linux on their desktop.

I'm guessing they'll extend the offer indefinitely when it comes up. They want as many people on their new OS as possible, the time limit is likely just to try and encourage faster adoption, the same way a car salesman will tell you their offer is only good for a limited time.

Come on, Khronos, you need to get Vulkan ready before every developer decides AGAIN they're going with DirectX (12), because that's what is available now.
