Nothing but negativity in this thread so far.

Hopefully we'll have working drivers later this year. Would be cool if Linux's graphics performance could get a big jump.

Because DirectX, GLide, and Mantle are really any better.

Reality check, they needed to change the name because they're making a completely new API, just like Wayland needed to be called Wayland instead of X12. If they had called it OpenGL 5 then there would just have been a repeat of OpenGL 3 all over again, where things went nowhere because backwards compatibility was demanded. As long as they don't use something like GIMP where they're going to offend someone, then it really doesn't matter what they call it, and complaining about it is really just bikeshedding.

LLVM is successful because it IS better. As for game engines, politics play a greater role in that realm afaik. Unigine should be a star by now but its russian and has opengl so forget it

Yet another example of no criticisim yes evangelism bigotry there.

Dragon vs GNU, well we will see. Dragon is not that better when on earth .

Please. None of us expected there to be anything from Khronos even remotely this soon.

You do realize how stupid the names of some of the most widely accepted products are right? The API could be called FluffyBunnies and it wouldn't effect it, because the reality is names and logos have significantly less impact than you want to think. You're just getting worked up because you think the bikeshed should be painted a different color than the one decided on, and you have nothing more you can contribute.

Vulkan will live or die by it's own merits, not by the color of the paint on the outside.
