    Is Arch even supplying a proper /etc/os-release file right now? (PTS has long supported os-release.)

      True, and don't forget to fallback to /usr/lib/os-release.

        There's an os-release file, but I just noticed it's in /usr/lib, not in /etc. This is its content:
        Code:
        NAME="Arch Linux"
        ID=arch
        PRETTY_NAME="Arch Linux"
        ANSI_COLOR="0;36"
        HOME_URL="https://www.archlinux.org/"
        SUPPORT_URL="https://bbs.archlinux.org/"

          Apparently yes:
          Code:
          ~$ cat /etc/os-release
          NAME="Arch Linux"
          ID=arch
          PRETTY_NAME="Arch Linux"

          SUPPORT_URL="https://bbs.archlinux.org/"
          BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugs.archlinux.org/"
          @Gusar:
          Code:
          ~$ ll /etc/os-release
          lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 29 jui 21:10 /etc/os-release -> ../usr/lib/os-release

              The reason Arch popularity has skyrocketed is the Evolution arch installer.
              Makes it really simple to get arch up and running for us non "gifted" people.

                Just made a change to Phoronix-Test-Suite Git to increase the priority of scanning os-release to hopefully detect Arch Linux better, if anyone using PTS can try out Git (https://github.com/phoronix-test-sui...nix-test-suite) and confirm that would be great.

                  Fedora

                  If the testsuite behaves on other fedora installations as on my, I understand that its % is so low: Out of curiosity I tried to run some of the test - already at downloading/installing the missing pakets, it crashed/went into some kind of endless loop that created as many processes as possible. Also the system detection is buggy: System info yields with my system: PROCESSOR = Intel Core i7-3930K @ 5.70GHz (12 Cores) - and no, my system is actually not running at 5.7 GHz.

                  I found the idea of such a test suite very good, even when it is not running on all systems/distributions (I am not curious enough/have that much spare time to track that bugs back). Michael does a good job with this, but one should be careful when drawing general conclusion as "this/that distri is the most popular for conduction test", when maybe the reason is just that it is not working out of the box with certain distributions.

                    You can't let non-linux-elite use ARCH!?! Noobs will taint the eliteness that makes us so much better than those plebs with their GUI and click interfaces. If you don't compile all your apps and kernels then you don't deserve to live! Time to kill the installer and keep these losers on Winblows where they belong!

                      LOL . Arch folks don't usually compile stuff though, unless it's from AUR.
