AMD has confirmed that support for HDMI 2.1 in amdgpu is not coming due to HDMI Forum licensing issues. This marks the end of a very long wait for me personally. Time to order a dongle, I guess.

Type of dongle would negate this?
HDMI as an entity needs to remove itself by quiet demiese, with less fanfare and pomp than Sun microsystems did.
