  • Thanks to everyone working on the AMD driver stack and WINE and DXVK

    Story time:
About one year ago I bought a nice 144hz-gaming monitor which supports Freesync. I play alot of "Heroes of the Storm" and I'm one of those guys who thinks he need's a perfect framerate in competitive multiplayer games. So I never really considered playing it on Linux, since wine+dxvk tended to produce alot of stuttering and unstable framerates.

Anyway. I was very disappointed to learn that activating Freesync caused unbearable flickering (changes in brightness) when playing Heroes of the Storm on Windows. Tried native fullscreen and windowed fullscreen, updating drivers, nothing worked. So I enjoyed my 144hz, but never used Freesync.

Yesterday I got a little freetime and decided to test the game on Linux. After filling the shader-cache (5-10 matches) the games runs on a perfectly stable 144fps AND FREESYNC IS WORKING. Such a smooth experience!

Tl:dr: My favorite game is running better on linux than on windows.

So I'm just here to say THANK YOU to all the developers who made this possible. I finally deleted my windows-partition yesterday
