Wouldn't it be good if the best of Wayland was copied over to Mir project by the Wayland team. Both teams getting together to make the best display server. Even if they choose to rename the project for a good gesture. eg: 'Waymir'...

"Copied over" as giving away free software hackers copyright? FUCK NO.

The fact is Wayland has schedule and adoption problems. if they piggy backed on Mir, both projects can benefit, even though the project names may not be exclusive. There's no shame in making something great if it means merging talented people's works.

Many people are hitting on Canonical simply due to the Tall Poppy Syndrome.

When reading the comments from the Wayland team on Mir, you can see they aren't stupid people and yes anger may have got them by surprise but I think they may see Mir as their opportunity too, to redeem Wayland, be that in a merge or happy for the both projects to thrive and use each others ideas.

Mark Shuttleworth is losing credibility because he talks shit, and will say anything to give a positive spin to Ubuntu.

When Wayland was announced, Shuttleworth said Ubuntu was backing it, but they never contributed anything to it!

Now, he says the competition is talking FUD.
It was the Mir camp that was talking FUD and saying Wayland had a broken insecure input model reminiscent that of the one in X, and they were wrong about it and later admitted it.
They were the ones that said Wayland could not do server-side allocations, and they were wrong about it.

Now Shuttleworth say Wayland isn't as open as they want you to believe. Wayland has been open since day one!
Mir on the other hand was secretly developed behind locked doors for 6 months before it was announced, and is not very open since it requires contributors to sign a Contributor License Agreement.

Mark Shuttleworth, stop lying, stop spreading FUD, and stop accusing others of spreading FUD!

Mir was created out of NIH, failure to properly research Wayland, and misconceptions and broken assumptions about Wayland.

                    Mark Shuttleworth:
Contrary to competitor FUD, from people who are not working as openly as they would have you believe
Canonical didn't even try to participate in the development of Wayland and the fact that he's only spreading FUD about Wayland (e.g. "not working as openly") without giving a single example, I conclude that Mark Shuttleworth is full of shit, excuse me my French.
