    of course, intel skylake supports 8bit vp9 hardware decoding, i think nvidia does too. Kaby lake will support 10bit h265 and 10bit vp9. Expect pascal and polaris to support 10bit for both of these too.

    gcn is the graphics core, and has nothing to do with video decode support. The UVD blocks determine that, and AMD has traditionally mixed and matched generations of UVD with different generations of shader cores. (In particular, integrated parts often get UVD a generation ahead of the shader cores)

    I'd expect desktop parts to start including support starting with Polaris.

    I thought tonga -read gcn 1.2- only supported 8bit hevc, or does it support in in hardware but just wasn't exposed?
