I got issues with vaapi hw video acceleration for radeon kernel driver, wayland session with use of below GPUs:
- HD6310 (E-350 APU), TeraScale 2
- HD8490, TeraScale 2
- FirePro V4900, TeraScale 2
- R7 250, GCN 1.0
For TeraScale 2 it results in corrupted video after a while and Desktop Environment artifacts all around after little more time. For GCN 1.0 it causes to GPU turn off when rest of the system continue to work fine (i.e. I can ssh to the affected machine).
The issue happens when playing FullHD videos in firefox with enabled vaapi, like youtube. I use h264ify to force youtube to h264 that those cards actually accelerates by hw.
I created bugs for it, bisected kernel and found breaking commit:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/1560
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2252
If any of you use such a hardware with vaapi enabled in firefox and suffers from same problems please add comment to mentioned bug reports. If you have such a hardware but do not use hw acceleration please make test to see if it is relevant for you.
