  • Laptop Skylake power managment on Linux and long term hardware reliability

Hello, few days ago there was an article Skylake's power management under Linux is dreadful and you shouldn't buy one until it's fixed made by one of Linux kernel developers Matthew Garrett. It basically says that at current state of Linux kernel power managment for Skylake laptop chips there is big chance that long term reliability of CPU cannot be assured. Could anyone here share some light on this issue, maybe Michael can do some analysis how serious is the problem? I would like to buy i3 or i5 skylake ulv laptop and install there Ubuntu 16.04 with 4.4 kernel, I think that in my position could be plenty of users not mentioning those who already bought intel Skylake machines. Is this problem really so serious, or only apply to NVMe, not normal SATA conections and pre 4.4 kernels?
