Oh so they said they'll keep things just as they are everybody takes their word for, right ? This is almost always what big companies say when they aquire another company but afterwards they rarerly keep their word.
If Softbank will see it in their interest to say split ARM and sell some of it off they'll just do that and while the headquarters will remain in the UK that doesn't mean that most of the business can't slowly move to somehwere else.
Not saying this is what will happen but it can happen, we've seen this before.

ARM's focus is R&D and have no production capacity. This looks to me like plain old big corporation seeking a strong patent portfolio to edge competition. Maybe they're just jumping into new markets and need that security, although the value does seem too high to be "just" that.

It would not make much sense tho. ARM is in a pretty damn good position atm, chopping it up would be totally retarded as it would drop its value to near-0.

Sure it might be a company of total trolololololols that decide to crash and burn ARM because they love MIPS processors, but it's not that likely.

SoftBank is a pretty big company. Owns Sprint. Not saying they aren't having problems, but certainly they are the size that can afford to have billion dollar problems. Not sure what to make out of the ARM purchase.

Politics aside, I hope they keep the company working roughly the same as it is now. It could really damage the industry for mobile chips if they decide to be more restrictive with the designs.
Hell I hope they have the wisdom to push better support for ARM hardware. Specifically they need to push ARM into a open source Mali driver.

ARM is a multi national already, if they really wanted to lead Britain they could have done so already. As for Brexit that is a good thing. The structure of the EU right now is not sustainable it will either fall apart or get bogged down in an excessively large governing body that can't do anything.

The Brexit is a good thing? Leaving the single market is a good thing? Next you're telling us the Swiss economy is doing fabulous...
I'd stick to your Teabagger meetings. Economics obviously isn't your forte.

EU is shit atm, but running alone is much much worse.

But we needed an example of what would happen to any country leaving EU, and they graciously deliver even if they will pay a huge price. Martyrs of the EU.
