With Renoir around the corner and vastly improved capabilities, this is a little late in the game.

      But those target different segments.

It's the other way around: Because Renoir is out, a few previous node fab lines will free up so using them to push out embedded SoCs to fill up the niche is fairly reasonable so long as it's priced right.

How does this differ from the Udoo Bolt V8 I already have in my hands?

Discover the UDOO BOLT, a quantum leap compared to current maker boards: a portable, breakthrough supercomputer that goes up to 3.6 GHz.

Different target market. The Bolts are for makers, tinkerers, and hobbyists. OnLogic's stuff are industrial grade. They're built to handle conditions that are typically unwelcoming to most electronics.

the article could also use a correction:

AMD today announced the Ryzen V1000 and Ryzen R1000 series embedded processors intended for mini PCs and other small form factor PCs.
AMD did publish an announcement today, but it wasn't announcing those months-old processors.

Move along, no 7nm to be seen here.
