Hey all,
I'm thinking of getting either the Gigabyte DS3R or DS3P. My question is about memory.
The manufacturer's web page (http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/...a-p35-ds3r.pdf) only lists a handful of memory modules that they approve for the board.
My question is whether or not I can use other memory modules. For whatever it's worth, I do NOT intend to overclock.
For example, the OCZ2G800R22GK module is approved, but the very similar OCZ2G8002GK is not approved. (see http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...c_dual_channel and http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...d_gx_xtc_rev_2 for the specs on those)
(1) Am I making a big mistake by using an "unapproved" memory module, even if it's also a DDR2 6400 non-ECC?
(2) Can anybody point me at a tutorial regarding what 4-4-4 and 5-5-5 mean and why I should care?
Thanks so much in advance.
