  • Need help selecting a motherboard

    hi
we have a haf 932 chasis but cannot decide on a motherboard. We'd like it as capable as affordable and it must be linux compatible and no spy/mal-ware on it. any suggestions would be apperciated.
    thanks

My current dream for next computer:
    MSI K9A2VM-F V2 52?
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition 62?
    2xKingston Valueram 2048MB (2GB) 800MHZ 2x20?
    2xSeagate Barracuda 7200.12 160GB 2x39?
Cheap DVD device 15-25? (optional for me as I have pxe installation option available)
    This totals for ~250?

Also in my shoping plan would be:
    Codegen M-610 400W 40?
    LG W1934S-BN 19" Wide LCD 100?
Logitech UltraX Premium for Business 19?
    Reusing old Logitech MX510 mouse

Too bad this combination doesn't scale well for upgrades. Upgrade to new technology level with ddr3 is just about happening. That is probably reason not to buy it even tough price looks very attractive.
Also new products for IGP cards are about to come out in autumn. (Just in case there is coming cheap&powerful new products)

MSI motherboard would include radeon 3100 IGP (no uvd2 for HD stuff but good enough for basic needs). I planed to have 2 HDs in mirror raid to maximise read performance and give fault tolerance. Of course upgrading to 320GB variant doesn't cost much if more HD spaces is requirement.

I don't know about linux compatibility more than that igp won't have the best 2D/3D performance until gallium which will take about 18 months to hit debian (if time based released are really coming for debian) fglrx should support it well enough until there is mesa driver.

I have a SuperMicro H8DME-2 motherboard in one of these cases.

        Certainly not a budget option.

Despite the huge case size, the fit is fairly tight. I had to get right-angle SATA cables to clear a CPU heatsink.
