Are you one of the AMD closed source driver developers? Your response sounded as if you are threatened by the open driver. Care to explain why dropping the closed driver is "crazy" and "bullshit" or explain why we even need the closed driver when the open driver is soon going to catch up?

Someone should make a FAQ that we could link to people repeating this question. Simplified answer: Consumer users won't need the closed driver. Enterprise customers will still need it, since a) Mesa won't support compatibility profiles for OpenGL 4 and b) because their software is built to rely on certain driver behavior (which is also related to the use of compatibility profiles) and c) it costs too much to port all that software to use core profile instead.
