For me it's more like buy Nvidia if you care only about fps in games. But buy intel/amd if you care about the opensource ecosystem. Like wayland, mesa, xorg. They are the one who are actively contributing to the future of the ecosystem. Software like Gnome and Kde are the one who benefit the most of opensource drivers. Basically do what you want but don't buy the foundery edition, wait for the partners.

Maybe NVIDIA is feeling sorry for AMD's driver performance issues and just doesn't want to give you another chance to trash them? j/k

Lol, maybe. Or maybe they didn't like the EGLStream articles.

The problem for a while has been that even with ABP disabled, you get no ads if you block JS. And there's a lot of JS Phoronix wants to run on your page.
Maybe there's a way to whitelist trusted advertisers (other than manually), but I haven;t found it yet.

What if you do 3D modelling? What if you want working power management? What if you want to run the latest kernel? Latest X server?
AMD has been closing the gap, but these were all a no go for AMD for the last 10-15 years.

I'd say don't buy at all until we see whether the usual initial price gouging is in effect. The cards will be with us in June or July as well.

I agree, and not only that, but since nvidia provides a good binary driver nouveau seems redundant. It'd be different if nvidia's driver was a trainwreck. But since it's really good, nouveau doesn't interest me much either.

Maybe Nvidia doesn't have enough cards to send out.
There's rumors that GDDR5X might still have limited availability.
But actually i rather see a real retail card in tests then hand picked reference samples or Founders Edition.
I think it's good that you communicate to readers rather then cave in for Nvidia.
That said I'm more exited about the coming AMD graphics.

If I was Micheal, I'd wait with buying this new card at least until Polaris comes out. The GTX 1080 might be cheaper then (probably not as cheap as the AMD cards though).

Probably they don't send you a card because the Linux performance is still horrible with the GTX1080.

I'd love to see some article discussing the state of hardware decoding for HEVC Main 10 profile (10 bit) support with the GTX 1080. I currently have a GTX 960 and it only supports HEVC Main profile hardware decoding. Software decoding on a i7-6700K for HEVC Main 10 @ 60 fps doesn't cut it

                      Relevant vdpauinfo output:
                      Code:
                      Decoder capabilities:
