    On every install I run the uninstall shell script first to remove the previous driver I have installed and then I run the ati*.run as root in graphical mode. Do you think I do something wrong during the install? Maybe I need to exit X first and run the ati*.run from console mode?

    Sounds like your monitor or the drivers have a broken EDID on the hdmi connection.

      I thought that too but what's the chance that both of them have broken EDID? Have the same issue with the monitor and the TV

        With HDMI, very high. It's actually in the minority to have a proper EDID through HDMI I've been finding lately. It seems most manufacturers seem to think HDMI will only be used in devices like Blueray and HD decoding boxes where EDID is not as important.

          So is there any workaround about this? Like putting the Modlines in the xorg.conf file? Will that help the driver to configure properly without EDID?

            Not sure on ATI's drivers but in nvidia's there is a option to ignore the EDID signal and specify them manually if you want.

              Thanks deanjo. Any recommended Nvidia pci/pcie card that might give me better resoults with the HDMI?
