    Seems the "Linux PowerPC notebook project" finally decided on the specs and started a funding campaign for the design of the motherboard. The project goal is to provide a full Open Source Hardware laptop and produce working prototypes.

    CPU: QorIQ T2080/2081, 64bit, quad-core (4 x POWER e6500), 8 threads (SMP), AltiVec

    I think this is interesting, 'cause if it succeeds this will be the most powerful PPC-machine out here for the consumer market - compared to the PowerMac G5 Quad and the Amiga One X5000.

    Oops, I was pointed to the fact, that the NXP T2080/T2081 is actually a quad-core (4 x POWER e6500), capable of running 8 threads with SMP.

    Unfortunately I can't edit the title of the thread accortingly.

          They’ve now posted the schematics and partnered with Slimbook for the case. Not certain what activity is planned next.

              The probably-final prototype rework has been done, the GPUs got an upgrade to GDDR6, and the prototypes are going to go into production soon if all things go well. Would love to see an article once the prototypes have their first boot.
              As you know, we were having troubles to find a few components in the market, not only because of their availability, but also due to the increased price. After extensive research, the designer replaced the unavailable components. Unfortunately, we were forced to buy a few components with a premium.
