So even though you are probably correct, I don't think there's any difference
The laptop cards come without adapter card, that's the difference. Of course you can, if you have the adapter card of the 6205, put another Mini PCIe card in it. But Bluetooth won't work, Mini PCIe slots also contains a USB link that's used for Bluetooth, a desktop PCIe slot doesn't, so using the 6230 in a desktop makes no sense. Unless there are other adapter cards available that also provide USB.
Anyone know about this Intel card's drivers? Can it be used to build an AP? If I knew of any specific product that Just Works (completely, not just as a supplicant) I'd toss my AP in a heartbeat.
@Michael: The model numbers of the adapters that you are referring to, are laptop adapters. The 6205 is the only one mentioned on their website which also has a desktop version.
