Moving from C-Ray to POV-Ray, a more popular ray-tracing engine, the best performance remained with the Core i7 920 but now the Phenom II X3 and Core i7 870 performance was nearly tied. Far in last place was the Core i5 750.

Our third and final ray-tracing test came via Tachyon. The Core i7 870 faired the best followed by the Core i7 920 right behind that and then the Core i5 750. Like our C-Ray results, the AMD Phenom II X3 did quite poorly with Tachyon.

With the Crafty chess engine, the best performance was found with the Core i7 920 followed by the Phenom II X3 710 and then the Core i7 870. This is another surprisingly strong finish for the Phenom II X3 compared to the new Core i7 870.
