OpenSolaris was not compatible with the MAFFT benchmark that measures the multiple sequence alignment of this computational biology program, but Fedora 12 did the best followed by Ubuntu 9.10. However, the MAFFT performance under FreeBSD 8.0 was significantly better than FreeBSD 7.2.

With the OpenMP-driven GraphicsMagick test profile, Fedora 12 had the best performance followed immediately by Ubuntu 9.10 and OpenSolaris 2010.02, but FreeBSD 7.2/8.0 was a few iterations behind. This was with the HWB Color Space conversion task.

Sticking with the GraphicsMagick performance but turning to the Local Adaptive Thresholding numbers, OpenSolaris 2010.02 did the best followed by the two FreeBSD releases. Fedora and Ubuntu were in last for this image-processing task.
