I am running Debian testing fglrx 8.45.5. The last few versions of fglrx have had problems in gnome. When I log in most of the time my gnome panel is just an empty gray bar. Sometimes when I log in with gnome failsafe session it brings the panel back. Lately, it seems that nothing brings the panel back. I tried 8.47.3 but that didn't fix the panel problem and lost my higher resolutions. I had to start using the open source ati driver which isn't great either.
I have a T42p thinkpad and lspci gives:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M10 NT [FireGL Mobility T2] (rev 80)
I'm not sure where the problem is. It seems that gdm, X and fglrx don't get along too well.
Anyone have any ideas?
