I'm sorry but Ubuntu is not "distro-specific". Ubuntu IS your desktop Linux, like it or not.

Again, Canonical is *not* breaking ABI during feature freeze.

You don't have to be awake 24/7 to support Mir. You only need to have your eyes open during Ubuntu development cycle.

Couldn't say better myself. Canonical are the only ones in FOSS world who have the balls to make an OPERATING SYSTEM, not an incoherent set of packages.

yes, but if canonical is the only that make a operating system in the foss..., I'm sorry but , what a shit of OS, after using ubuntu, I prefer to use my osx mountain lion, 100%, ubuntu with unity is crappy, doesn't have a good media player made by canonical, doesn't have a good web browser made by canonical, doesn't have a good video player....( yes totem is bad than quicktime).....

The only desktop that can fight with osx, are kde.

I think I know better than you what runs on my desktop...
So what? That only shows that gamers (who most likely switched from Windows and have no idea what Linux means. Also Valve recommends Ubuntu for Steam) use Ubuntu.

Why not? For example if there's a flaw in the ABI they'll change it, this has nothing to do with a new feature. Again, Canonical itself told they can break it at any time.

well to be honest there was a link, it was explicitly bold font marked in the first why not wayland article but i cannot find that revision of the article anymore only the fixed one, so i can't say for sure if it was a blopper or not.

Yup, Totem is just bad, Ubuntu has VLC in repos and you can install Chrome from chrome.google.com.

And don't be kidding yourself. KDE 3 was good, KDE 4 is a disaster. Now with Nepomuk and Akonadi that don't work 90% of the time and are incredibly laggy.

I think Steam HW survey knows better than you which Linux-based OS is most popular.

...which is a very shitty excuse for the point I've made. Ubuntu is the most popular desktop Linux-based OS, like it or not.

              • i have little hope for KDE if that developer keeps being the main developer. KDE needs to find a new maintainer

                  • The only DEs with this kind of backing are Unity and Gnome
Not true. KDE has corporate backing too, the kscreen library comes from guys at redhat, and Blue Systems( http://blue-systems.com/ ) who btw took kubuntu under thair wing.. Blue Systems also support kwin development.
Also Unity and Gnome have to maintain their own toolkit, which KDE doesn't (digia).
[QUOTE]I think Steam HW survey knows better than you which Linux-based OS is most popular.[QUOTE]Popularity != linux desktop. If you measure only by popularity, you'll never get anywhere. By the same standards : OS X is the Unix desktop. Windows is the Desktop OS.

                    • All right, let's add Collabora and KDAB to the mix. Not KDE enough? Kolabsys.
Next month he might lay off the few developers and buy a yarcht to sail the Caribbian.
Next month Shuttleworth may decide Ubuntu isn't worth the trouble anymore and pull the plug. What's your point?
