Checking Out The Ubuntu TV Prototype

I saw Ubuntu TV at CES and I also spoke with the developers that would be working on it. I saw would be because, what was being shown was a mock up. There are several unknowns at the moment. What will be used for the actual DVR functionality, how/where to get guide data and what the actual UI will look like. While I wish them well, Ubuntu TV has a way to go before you can go down to your local electronics store and buy one.

Ok people, now imagine: it's Ubuntu, it's Linux. If the TV ships with a good GPU then you can play games directly on the TV. Imagine point and click games (like the ones found on big fish games) being played directly on your tv.

I like this idea.

LG sets ship with webOS which is also Linux-based. It's just horribly locked down, though there are root options for older versions of the system.
